Autosuggestion: How we can rewrite our lives with thoughts and words

Autosuggestion

Autosuggestion is a process by which an individual trains the subconscious mind to believe something, or systematically schematises the person’s self mental associations, usually for a given purpose. This is accomplished through self-hypnosis methods or repetitive, constant self-affirmations, and may be seen as a form of self-induced brainwashing.

Autosuggestion is the psychological use of spoken words, often in a repetitious nature, to influence the subconscious mind which is the main influencer of human behaviour.

In other words, autosuggestion is one of the many tools where we can reprogram the mind. Let’s use the analogy where the mind is like a supercomputer. Every computer runs some kind of default program that was installed. These default programs are things like your temperament, disposition, and personality. Similar to the preinstalled default apps like settings, camera, calendar, etc when you purchase a new smartphone or a computer. Other times, these new devices contained bloatware or unwanted software which were also preinstalled by the manufacturer.

What autosuggestion does is to install, delete and modify the existing software that was installed onto your computer. In this case, to modify the existing programs, install new software, or remove the unwanted programs that run within the mind.

Like every computer whose its hard-disk would normally be empty except for the operating system and default software, a child comes into this world as a blank slate. A tabula rasa is like a clean slate, absence of preconceived ideas or predetermined goals. We each were born in a state of Fitrah. The state of purity and innocence which we embody naturally within ourselves when we were born.

From an early age, we were taught the social rules and concepts that exist in the reality that we live in. Your parents, teachers, and friends may have taught you what to do, how to behave, what to eat, what is good, what is bad, etc… We were taught about what our beliefs are, our identity, and our behaviors.
