Journeyed the stratosphere as I fly,
Orbited the earth for days and nights,
My fervent zeal to rule the sky,
Ascended higher with lofty pride;

Falling on deaf ears despite advice,
Bestowed with wax wings delicately tied,
For ignorance augured my demise,
Frail wings of wax scorched by sunlight;

Free-falling from the edge of space,
Drifted amongst the gales like a kite,
Plummeted from the sky into waste,
Coursed to crash like a meteorite;

To drown in the ocean and its tides,
Swept by the waves that crashed ashore,
Mortality as my fate decides,
Now a legend of Greek folklore;

A humble lesson we each could learn,
Seeking wisdom withholding pride,
Neither be headstrong nor adamant,
To know one’s limits of appetite;
