The Child & Giants

We spent decades searching high and low,
Searched in outside places which we know,
Sought in hidden places which may hide,
Sought out everywhere but inside;

To find within an uncared child,
A sad little child who forgot to smile,
Who wants to go out to run and play,
Hoped the giants would show the way;

Surrounded by giants of my kind,
Roamed the earth to search and find,
To look for reasons why we frowned,
While losing the smile we had not found;

I stood to wonder “Who stole our smile?”,
Had the giants left them on an aisle?
Why would they give it to someone else?
And allow to discard them into wells;

If a smile to us would mean the world,
What is halting us from being bold?
If it meant importance to each of us,
Why can’t we protect it by ourselves?
